力愛不二（少林寺拳法）/Riki Ai Funi

戦後の荒廃の中で、日本人の武道家　宋道臣氏が創設した「少林寺拳法」の教えに「力愛不二」という言葉がある。

これは、力が強いだけではそれを不純なことや人の道にはずれたことに使ってしまうし、愛だけで力が無ければ自分の愛する人を守ることはできないことから、力と愛は一体不可分のものであるという考え方だ。 

この教えが端的に示すように、少林寺拳法は自己（または自分の愛する人）を守ることを主眼に置いた、防衛的な武道だ。戦後、日本人の心が荒廃する中で、このような思想を持った武道が復興を支えた。 

宋道臣氏の亡き今、社会の変化もあり、少林寺拳法の競技人口は低迷している。 

しかし、この思想を今こそ再考すべきかもしれない。一触即発の朝鮮半島、軍備を増強しつづける中国を隣国にする日本に不足しているのは、力なのか愛なのか。自明である。

Shorinji Kempo, one of the Japanese martial arts, has number of precepts, including "Riki Ai Funi". Shorinji Kempo was established by Mr. Doshin So just after World War 2. Mr. So studied many kinds of martial arts abroad, combined to one concept and brought it to Japan. 

"Riki Ai Funi" is the philosophy that power (Riki) and love (Ai) are indivisible. More concretely, a person, who is powerful but does not have love, cannot control and misuse his/her power; on the other hand, a person, who has loved ones but is not powerful enough, cannot protect himself/herself nor loved ones.

Since Shorinji Kempo is more defensive than other martial arts (e.g. Karate), this precept is one of the most fundamental and distinct philosophy in the Kempo.

Considering the current situation surrounding Japan, we need to reconsider this idea and how to change ourselves, especially from military point of view, in order to survive and maintain independence with dignity.
